ADOPT A HATCHLING
WHY DO FLATBACK TURTLES NEED OUR HELP?
The vulnerable flatback turtle, like Tilly, is the only marine turtle to nest solely within Australia and their only privately owned nesting habitat is at Avoid Island.
QTFN purchased the island in 2006 and turned into a nature refuge to maintain it as a protected, safe and clean environment so flatback turtles could lay their eggs for generations.
You can help save the turtles by adopting a hatchling today for only $20.
HELP SAVE FLATBACK TURTLES – ADOPT A HATCHLING TODAY
Flatback turtle hatchlings have one of the most challenging starts to life of all infants in the animal world. Once they crack out of their egg shells, buried deep in the sand, they work with their siblings to dig their way to the surface. They must then evade predators such as birds, small crocodiles and crabs, and avoid artificial lighting disorientation, to safely make the trek to their new home in the ocean.
They really do need all the help they can get!
For just $20, you can symbolically adopt your very own hatchling from the 2013-14 nesting season, and help protect the flatback turtle for years to come.
Be part of our efforts to save a threatened species by adopting a hatchling today.
Your adoption pack will include:
- An e-certificate identifying your unique adopted hatchling
- A brief report about the 2013-14 flatback turtle season and surveying done at Avoid Island
- Regular updates from QTFN about our work on Avoid Island and other conservations projects across Queensland
- And, of course, a tax deductible receipt
WHERE IS AVOID ISLAND?
In excess of 7,000 eggs are laid on Avoid Island and emerge as hatchling turtles each year.
All funds raised through the Adopt a Hatchling campaign ensures Avoid Island is kept as a safe haven for flatback turtles so they can continue laying eggs safely for generations.
Adopt a hatchling today for you or a loved one.
